Child Injured In Burglary/Shooting
09 December 2015, Columbia, Pennsylvania
Columbia, PA Police confirm that a minor was injured and involved in a shooting after a burglar attempted to break into his house around 3 A.M.
Authorities say that the man broke into the house and struck the boy, who retrieved a shotgun and opened fire, driving the intruder out of the house.
The boy was slashed by the assailant.
Police do not believe that the man was injured by the shotgun.
While we are glad that nobody hhad to lose a life in this, of the two, we would have preferred that the intruder be injured, rather than the child.
What can we take from this? Teach your children how to use your shotgun.
If you have underaged persons in the house, and you elect to have a home-defense weapon available in the house, every person who has access to that gun should be sufficiently trained in its use.
Now, having said that, we would like to take this opportunity to stress that you need to ensure that you are in compliance with all laws in effect in your jurisdiction. For example, Texas requires that all firearms be secured from access by anyone aged 17 years of age or younger, with only a few exceptions.
Of course, one of those exceptions is that the underaged person is accessing the firearm in defense of people or the property.
