Angelo Cassius Cazarez, yet another innocent victim of America’s fatal love affair with firearms. He was shot down when an unrelated third party injected himself into the discussion Angelo was having with his wife, Maria Rodriguez.
The neckbeard in question, after a tip of his trilby and hearty “milady”, must have imagined himself quite the gallant in placing himself between Angelo and Maria during their private discussion. Sadly for Angelo, said neckbeard didn’t care that Angelo didn’t have a gun and, in an attempt to defend Maria’s honor, drew his firearm and gunned Angelo down; probably making some stupid James Bond-type pun afterwards like, “Consider this your divorce.”
Waco police, having long been in the pockets of the NRA and the greedy death merchants for which they lobby, have characterized the shooting as “self-defense”. Which is complete rubbish, of course. This stranger injected himself and his gun where he wasn’t wanted, escalating the situation by pulling out his phallus-substitute.
Angelo, distracted by this unwarranted intrusion, focused on the interloper, leaving Maria free to spread the panic by going door-to-door asking for someone to call the police.
This, actually, is an almost text book case of the application of Texas Penal Code Section 9.33, Defense of Third Person:
Sec. 9.33. DEFENSE OF THIRD PERSON. A person is justified in using force or deadly force against another to protect a third person if:
(1) under the circumstances as the actor reasonably believes them to be, the actor would be justified under Section 9.31 or 9.32 in using force or deadly force to protect himself against the unlawful force or unlawful deadly force he reasonably believes to be threatening the third person he seeks to protect; and
(2) the actor reasonably believes that his intervention is immediately necessary to protect the third person.
According to multiple reports, the shooter (name, age, gender unknown) observed Angelo assaulting his wife in the apartment complex parking lot and went to render aid to stop the active assault. Maria informed the shooter that her husband was armed with knives and then took advantage of the shooter’s intervention to get a phone call through to 9-1-1.
Perhaps Angelo was simply emotionally disturbed, perhaps he was actually suicidal, all we know for sure is that Angelo, who had just moved up to Waco to be with Maria, armed with his knives, attempted to assault the shooter. The shooter, after giving Angelo multiple warnings, opened fire; stopping Angelo’s attack and killing him.
The police have ruled it a justifiable homicide. But given the current political climate, it will undoubtedly be turned over to the local prosecutor to see if there’s anything to charge the hero with; because guns are evil and only police and military should have them.
